Chalk it up to the supermoon.
“We got a call from someone saying the (expletive) was on fire,” said police Sgt. Dennis Fleming.
The portable toilet located at the baseball field across from Finberg School was surrounded by a wooden privacy fence but by the time the fire was extinguished, all that remained was a twisted pile of melted green plastic and the charred remains of the fence.
“It was fully involved by the time we got here,” said fire Capt. Steve Stellakis.
Getting a call that the toilet is on fire is pretty odd and unsurprisingly both Fleming and Stellakis said they couldn’t recall ever getting called to a portable toilet fire before.
“This certainly would be the first for me,” Stellakis said.
Though Fleming said he couldn’t recall responding to a call like this, he said the police department routinely responds to calls for just about everything.
“We get everything all the time,” he said. “It doesn’t surprise me.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
